I was born in an impoverished, tumultuous, pocket of Ahmadabad, India. I immigrated to the United States with my older sister when I was ten years old. In Columbus, Ohio, with the help of great mentors, I learned to follow my dreams and made lifelong friends. While attending The Ohio State University, I discovered and began my love of glass making. Over the next ten years, I took a journeyman’s approach to glass, working with artists from the United States, Canada, Australia, Denmark and Japan. In 2016, I arrived in Oakland, California. After the summation of so many different lives, I’m starting the most arduous chapter; the affirmation of my own artistic voice.
My art is my sanctuary. Originating in a deep respect for the glass tradition, while simultaneously rejecting those confines. The techniques I have acquired through my many apprenticeships serve as a foundation. I push past the foundational forms by adding visual elements such as rings, kicks and cane. I want my pieces to convey the spiritual centering I feel during their creation and the calming sense of serenity when I view them. The intent is to draw my audience in and share with them, the journey of discovering my artistic principles: profound, but subtle, prevalent, but intimate, present, yet absent.
